About ML
I must confess, this page is less about me and more about those things, those people who have inspired me along the way. Helped me to cultivate my eye, my taste, my confidence and my ardent view on personal style, fashion and trends.

We’re always following in someone’s footsteps, and I guess you could say I follow my mother’s. Running a comb through her hair, putting a dab of Chanel No. 5 behind each ear, with a quick glance in the mirror to put on her lipstick, she was out the door. To the grocery store. To play tennis. To pick up one of the kids, in what must have felt like a nonstop shuttle service with eight. Children, that is. She didn’t have time for anything else. And what’s more, she didn’t need it. I always noticed this tiny ritual of hers. A regime so effortless and easy, her look stunning. And she would always give me a smile as I watched her go. Little did I know, she was teaching me everything I needed to know about style. Be yourself. Work with what you’ve got. Put your best foot forward and hold your head high. And don’t forget to laugh a lot.
Of course, she was the anchor, but there were others. I grew up in the time when nothing came between Brooke and her Calvins. Being a bit young and naive, I never quite understood the metaphor, but I knew it must be something very sophisticated. It all seemed so big city and intimidating, yet very enticing. And although I kept every Vogue magazine I could get my hands on, it was really Liz Tilberis at Harper’s Bazaar that had the most impact on me. Her sense of aesthetic, her writing, her interpretation of fashion and trend created such a stylish read that I poured over each issue like it was gospel.
One of the more lasting influences? I simply cannot tell a lie. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. As much as I loved clothes, I loved music more, and the Rolling Stones were the soundtrack to my life. Onstage and off, it wasn’t so much what they wore, it was how they wore it. With swagger. With an offhanded confidence. With a knowing....My mother knew this, and with a wink and a nod, she approved.
So there are no Coco Chanel quotes here, as much as I truly admire her. Just an anchor, some glossy pages and a bit of an edge. It’s my own unique mix. It’s what I’ve got to work with. My own personal style.
